Modern Edge With Classic Couture:Prabal Gurung’s Print Ensemble

Florence Welch on Prabal
Florence Welch on Prabal

Bold floral print is already very hard to tame, plus the pajama looking? I don’t know who can pull it off, until I saw this look of Florence Welch.

Of course she has never been afraid of print. But for me, another important reason that this look is so stunning is because the print is from Prabal!

For me, Prabal Gurung is a legend. He and his line are both so young. It’s hard to believe that after launched his first collection during New York Fashion Week in february2009, Prabal has already dressed leading ladies including Michelle Obama, Demi Moore, Zoe Saldana and Oprah Winfrey.

Among all of his presentations, his pre-fall 2012 is my favorite. The Indian-culture inspired print is truly breathtaking. For the designer, it’s may be his salute to the place where he started his career. For me, what I appreciate most is the designer didn’t use lots of  obvious embroidery, instead he focused on the fabric itself: the texture of the fabric and the depth within the print. One top of that, the subdued, earthen color palette really makes us much easier to capture the floral trend.

By Helen Hou

I'm Helen. In the huge fashion world, what attracts me the most is the way different people accessorize themselves. Our daily outfit choices are not just about the pieces we pick, they relate to something lurking deeply within our hearts: how we feel about ourselves, how we express ourselves to the rest of the world, what kind of people do we want to be and what kind of life do we want to live. Following my passion for fashion, I immerse myself in this bizarre world and try my best to share what I learned with you!
