Weekend Getaway: Three Outfits Based on Two Pieces

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a great week so far. I went on vacation in Lake Placid with my family last week. It’s my first time to go there and I really enjoyed everything: the magnificent views from top of Whiteface Mountain, the relaxing time kayaking on Mirror lake, the exquisite arts and crafts on Main Street, and the fun camping adventures… Grateful for the experience, I want to share with you some of my outfits and also some travel tips.

The first must-see place in my list is Whiteface Mountain. It’s the fifth-highest mountain in New York State, and one of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Views from the top are gorgeous. Thanks to the Veterans Memorial Highway, we can drive all the way up, nearly to the peak, which means hiking there requires minimum equipment. That’s perfect for me to transform outfit since I plan to spend the rest of the day in town.

There are several occasions that we need to prepare during our trip, like hike, camping, kayaking, dinner, art gallery…, so basic pieces are perfect: they can easily be transformed by simply adding accessories, which can save lots of space in our luggage. My friends always call me a light packer thanks for this tip.

For this trip, I packed my trusty Splendid vintage tee, flattering Citizens of Humanity jeans, and my favorite PS1 bag, love the smoke color, it compliments most of my wardrobe and the design and size fits my lifestyle.

Heading to Whiteface Mountain, I worn Isabel Marant sneakers since we can drive up as I mentioned earlier. The summit is 4610 feet above sea level, so it’s windy and cold there. This faux leather jacket saved me: kept me warm and stylish. The best part of a faux leather jacket? It’s eco-friendly and price-friendly, which means you don’t need to worry about scratching or damaging it in outdoor activities.

In the afternoon, we drove to the town of Lake Placid, rent kayaks there (only $25 for half day), spent the whole afternoon kayaking on the stunning Mirror Lake, wandering along Main Street. The water in Mirror Lake is crystal-clear, the sun is warm, the sky is clear…what else can we ask for?

Since there was a lot of walking, I changed into flats. This cute classic leopard loafer spices up the basic outfit. The eye-catching Kate Spade straw hat adds fun to the look while protecting me from the sun. I picked a lotus flower in the lake and pinned it on my braid.

When it’s getting dark, more and more tourists hang out in the town till midnight. A simple pair of designer pumps, scarlet lips and a python clutch easily took me to dinner and after-dinner drink. I love animal print clutches, but personally, I like to carry python print ones in spring/summer, leopard in fall/winter and zebra year round. You can also add one statement jewelry if you think this look is too plain for you. My favorite is this spike necklace which can add an edgy twist to any outfit.

I'm Helen. In the huge fashion world, what attracts me the most is the way different people accessorize themselves. Our daily outfit choices are not just about the pieces we pick, they relate to something lurking deeply within our hearts: how we feel about ourselves, how we express ourselves to the rest of the world, what kind of people do we want to be and what kind of life do we want to live. Following my passion for fashion, I immerse myself in this bizarre world and try my best to share what I learned with you!
